OpenAI eyes another massive funding round before going public

The AI giant is reportedly negotiating a new private raise that could push its value past one trillion dollars, delaying its anticipated public debut.

Tech companies in the region are watching the artificial intelligence sector closely as new details emerge about the funding strategies of the industry leaders. Reports indicate that OpenAI is currently in advanced talks to secure a significant new round of private investment. This move suggests the company may prioritize further private capital over an immediate public listing.

According to sources, the AI lab is aiming to raise up to thirty billion dollars. The deal would value the company at one hundred twenty five billion dollars on a pre-money basis. Coatue is reported to be leading this round, with additional participation from investors based in the UAE. These terms are still under negotiation, so the final figures could shift before the deal is finalized.

This latest development follows a similar report from Bloomberg released about a month ago. That earlier report suggested OpenAI was seeking thirty billion dollars at a valuation of one point four trillion dollars. The current reports indicate that the UAE funding might be tied to a separate agreement. Under that deal, OpenAI would secure more computing capacity from the region to support its growing operations.

If OpenAI successfully closes this round at a valuation exceeding one trillion dollars, it would set a new record. The company would become the most valuable private enterprise in history. Such a high valuation would also establish a higher benchmark for its upcoming initial public offering. OpenAI filed confidential paperwork for an IPO in June, following a March funding round that valued the company at eight hundred fifty two billion dollars post-money.

The high valuation target for OpenAI could also impact the trajectory of its rival, Anthropic. Many observers believe Anthropic is closer to going public, with rumors suggesting its public S-1 filing could appear any day. Reports indicate that Anthropic is seeking a valuation between one point five and two trillion dollars for its debut. The company raised sixty five billion dollars in May at a nine hundred sixty five billion dollar valuation, which many believed would be its last major round before listing. Anthropic also filed confidential IPO paperwork in June.

OpenAI has declined to comment on the specific details of the negotiations. The outcome of these talks will likely shape the future of private equity in the AI space. As both companies navigate the path to public markets, their valuations will serve as key indicators for investors watching the technology sector. The potential tie between funding and computing resources in the UAE also highlights the growing importance of infrastructure partnerships in this industry.
